ERNIE HALVORSEN & CINDY CHIANGERNIE & CINDY have raced around the world, visiting 8 countries and 20 cities during Season 19 of CBS's Emmy Award winning show, The Amazing Race. They're quickly becoming known for their energetic personalities, intense competitiveness and loving relationship. It's these qualities that enabled Ernie & Cindy to win the final leg and the coveted $1 Million prize.
Cindy convinced Ernie to apply for The Amazing Race after watching several seasons together. She is a 'super-fan' of the show and knew preparation was serious business and therefore planned an exhaustive training schedule. Activities included running, rock climbing, kayaking, swimming, playing softball and they have also competed in a few triathlons.
As a mixed-ethnicity couple, Ernie & Cindy wanted to prove to America that love can find its way despite differences in physical appearance. There are so few mixed couples shown on TV, and together Ernie & Cindy would like to serve as role-models for other couples facing challenges.
The lovebirds met a few years ago in the summer of 2008. At the time, Ernie was living in Germany for work. He came home to Chicago to visit his family and treated his dad to a Cubs game. Cindy was also at the Cubs game with some of her girlfriends who wandered into the same bar where Ernie & his dad went after the game. She asked Ernie to take a photo for her and her friends. After a short conversation and an exchange of contact information, the couple spent the next 4 months exchanging lengthy, daily emails while Ernie was back in Germany and Cindy was in Chicago. Their first date lasted four days long during the Holiday break when Ernie came back for a visit. Another four months passed and Ernie finally returned home to Chicago and the rest is history!
After two years of dating, the two traveled to the German town were Ernie lived. Ernie proposed at the famous Bell Tower in the Augsburg town square. The two are planning their wedding for March 2012 in Chicago. Ernie & Cindy have a fun-loving relationship full of laughter with family and friends. Together they enjoy exercising, cooking, watching TV and traveling. Prior to The Amazing Race, Ernie & Cindy have visited Thailand, Cambodia, Jordan, Germany, France, and Canada.
