Team Roadblockers
My team is named Team Roadblockers. We came up with the name because our favorite show is The Amazing Race and a road block is featured in the race. As Team Roadblockers, no road block will prevent us from winning and we may road block other teams. Haha We LOVE reality shows, in particular we love The Amazing Race, Survivor and Big Brother.
Team Roadblockers consists of myself, Stephanie Furukido, my sister Chris Furukido and our friend Gina Fernald. We are participating in Reality Rally in support of women with breast cancer, Michelle's Place, and because I had my own fight with breast cancer in 2011 and my sister and friend are joining me in this fun event in support of me. My sister and I attended the meet and greet last year but I was not able to participate in the race at that time. I was just diagnosed and had my biopsy around the time of Reality Rally. I said at that time that we're going to participate in 2012 and here we are. I want to give hope, inspiration and encouragement to women out there with breast cancer. I found a mass that a mammogram didn't catch, my family doesn't have a history of breast cancer, nor did I have the gene. I was diagnosed with stage 3a breast cancer, I elected to have a lumpectomy and 9 weeks of radiation treatment. I chose not to have chemo and I don't regret that decision at all. 2011 was a tough year for me, but I hope 2012 is a more healthier, happier and fun year for me. I had a normal mammogram scan and for now I am cancer free. I'm so grateful and appreciate life so much more. I haven't told everyone I know about my battle, I've only told people close to me and I've found that some people can't handle news like that. But I would like to inspire others to take control of their bodies and life and to be proactive in their health.
